As we step into this holy season of Advent, we once again prepare our hearts to welcome the hope, peace, joy, and love made known to us in Jesus Christ. Advent is a time of watching and waiting, but also of transformation — as God renews our lives and our communities through grace.

This year, the Lay Ministries Team of the West Virginia Conference is pleased to offer a special devotional series: Transforming Appalachia through God’s Love, written entirely by laypeople from across our Conference.

Each day’s devotion reflects on how God’s redeeming love is alive in the hills, valleys, towns, and neighborhoods of Appalachia.

Inspired by Matthew 3:1–12 and the call to “prepare the way of the Lord,” these reflections bear witness to the Spirit’s ongoing work of renewal in and through God’s people.
