Brothers and Sisters of Christ,

Homes, cars, and businesses were washed away last week during historic flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Now, already poverty-stricken communities have been reduced to rubble. The aftermath has revealed dozens of lives lost while search and rescue attempts to find many others still missing.

Friends, our brothers and sisters in Kentucky are suffering badly and are in dire need of help. As Christ followers, it is our duty to help others and to love our neighbors. What better way to show that Christ-like love than by making another’s burden our own and providing as much support as we can?

“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2 NRSV

Today, become a beacon of light in what is otherwise a dark time for Eastern Kentucky by prayerfully considering donating to the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church. Among others, they are the hands and feet on-site assisting an overwhelming amount of people and need resources to help get people’s lives back on track.

As we sit here from afar and see the damage and devastation on the news, we may be thinking of the canned goods we have in our pantries or the old clothing in our closets that we can box up and ship out. Although items such as those may be needed, there are other more beneficial donations you can make that will better serve those communities impacted by flooding.
